CRITICAL RESEARCH IN FASHION & MEDIA

As part of my Masters there has been an increased focus on academia to underpin our work which includes historical, contemporary, contextual, practical and theoretical research. I focused my critical and creative thinking into the beauty industry and the presentation and interpretation of this throughout societies. This theoretical underpinning taught me to evaluate as well as disseminate research findings, considering the broad range of contexts relevant to the fashion and creative industries that has enabled me to understand the relationship between theory and practice. Examining the evolution and contemporary landscape of international markets, introducing key theories and discourse has provided a strong foundation to grow my own personal opinions.

Building upon my previous research, I developed and refined my field of study to focus on the growth of wellbeing within the UK beauty industry. Consumers are continually seeking out brands offering support within a world that is emotionally complex and for the beauty industry, encouraging discussions around mental health is a natural fit. Looking at the growth of the UK beauty sector has allowed for an understanding of the growth market and the consequent future opportunities for brands and conglomerates to alter the presentation of beauty to create a market that is positive and fulfilling for individuals throughout society.
